TOTEM [TOH-tum]

Noun.

"A usuallly carved or painted representation of an object".

I am delighted to have curated our Summer Show TOTEM, featuring the work of three women who's idiosyncratic creativity is inspired by key artists from Britain's post war period spanning the traditional disciplines of stone carving, oil painting and low relief collages.

Our exhibition TOTEM highlights these three modern icons. Lauri Hopkins, who's low relief collages and paintings feature the re-assembling of discarded materials. Created from an open and responsive place, her bodies of work become a visual diary.

Stone carver Rosie Musgrave explores her interest in rocks and natural forms through her abstract sculptures in alabaster, marble and limestone, continuing a tradition that is at the core of our built environment since humans first inhabited these islands.

And oil painter Elizabeth Neville's abstract work focuses on the investigation and deconstruction of the human form in a genre that remains at once familiar to the modern art world. These three modern artists bring their fresh and exciting creativity to Stow-on-the-Wold in a celebration of contemporary British art at its best.

We look forward to welcoming you to our summer exhibition at our gallery in the heart of the Cotswolds.
